Pulando, pulando, pulando, pulando, pulando! Madonna…

My name is Rita Marinho. I have been here for 34 years. Currently, I am a manager of the General Secretariat. I mark the schedules, I attend to the day-to-day affairs of the other departments, I schedule taxis… I save everyone’s life. What is needed right now, what is not needed… I actually started working here for a twenty-day stint. I helped with the newspaper archive section of Walter Zanini and Gabriela Wilder with Sheila Leirner, who was to be the curator. They invited me, with Gabriela, to stay, and I have been here until now working at the Bienals. The best Bienal to my eyes was the 24th Bienal, by Julio Landman, with the Historical Nucleus. But I understand that the Bienal has to show the art of the moment. We always have the tendency to go to the right, don’t we? Always going to the right, it takes me a while to see the Bienal on the left side. I chose this artwork because of Rayssa, who works with me, Rayssa Foizer. She came up to me and said: “There is an artwork that is for you! To excite you!” And she pointed to it. I said: “Oh! That work is by Bruce Nauman!” Because I remembered a Bienal in which a work by Bruce Nauman was beside my room, which was only voice, voice, voice. It didn’t bother me, it bothered the girls who were working with me. For me, as I am very electric, I thought it was totally cool, because I would even dance, saying: “no, no, no, no”… It was right during election week, so I had to finish with a lot of things, “no” to racism, “no” to evil. I would dance there, even with the people looking. I said: “No. I have to do something different!” And that was a state of spirit for me. Afterwards, I went back there and remembered other things. This that I think is good, too. For example, the time of David Byrne, dancing, you know? Really dancing, just totally dancing! Madonna… Like my friend Rayssa said: “I want, I want, I really want to dance!” And that thing of being opposed to something, at the same time it flattens what you want. You might want it, but no one is going to give it to you. You have millions of things in mind. So it was spectacular for me, because I was so anxious, so nervous, that that came out! You see? I was going to pay for therapy and Bruce Nauman is not even going to charge me.
